Welcome from our Secretariat
29 September, 2008
Dear Delegates, Faculty, and Friends,
Welcome to the website of Kennesaw State University’s 23rd Annual High School Model United Nations Conference! Along with the entire KSUHSMUN staff as well as the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of Political Science and International Affairs, we would like to thank you for your participation in this model.
Since 1986, KSUHSMUN has strived to be a premier model conference for high school students in Georgia. The participation and dedication we have received from students, faculty, staff, and supporters have allowed our conference to continue to grow over the years. You may notice that along with this growth, there have been several changes to the structure of this year's conference, which we believe will serve to enhance our conference and allow for an improved learning experience overall.
One of the first changes is in committee structure. While this year's conference will not include an International Court of Justice, we have been able to add the UN Environmental Programme, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the UN Human Rights Council. Another change is on the number of agenda items per committee. As you can see, we have decreased the number of agenda topics from three to two. We believe that this will give the students more time to go in-depth on their topics, both during research and committee, which will in turn result in a richer educational experience. Of course, you may have noticed that our website has also undergone an update designed by our Secretary-General, which she hopes will be as user-friendly as our previous websites while maintaining a slightly more polished look.
The entire KSUHSMUN staff is constantly working on improving our conference to continue to deliver on the outstanding reputation we have garnered over the past 22 years. If there are any comments, concerns, or suggestions please contact the Senior Secretariat at the e-mail links below and we will be happy to respond. We would also like to extend an offer to provide an in-service on research methods and/or team organization for those schools that request it. For those teams who are interested, Faculty Advisors are invited to contact us to schedule an appointment so that we may share our insights and experience.
We also ask that you check the website regularly. All updates will be posted on the News & Updates page. Background guides will be posted by December 1st. In addition, this year we will be updating the Country Matrix in order to show which countries have already been reserved and will be represented at the upcoming conference.
Again, we welcome you to the 2009 KSUHSMUN Conference and wish you luck with your research and preparations. If we could be of assistance in any way, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to seeing you in committee!
Sincerely,
Amanda Barnes
